We have two kinds of determinants of body processes and behaviour of organisms-the Karma and the genes-the two seemingly diverse systems performing similar functions. This book makes a comparative study of the doctrine of Karma and the science of genetics. Explaining the concept of Karma as known to various Indian philosophies, including Jainism, it deals with the concept of life in Jaina philosophy, and goes on to describe the classification, bondage, fruition and annihilation of Karma. Further discussing the developments in genetic science, along with its important aspects, it presents a comparative study of Karma and genes and brings out the fact that Karmas are the cause and genes are their effects.
