One aim of life, perhaps its chief aim, is to realize one's full potential. Necessarily, man needs the collectivities of which he is a part to realize this potential. It is here obvious that he has to be cognizant of others' needs for similar realization. The need to balance the pursuit of one's ultimate goal with others' needs to reach theirs is the foundation of the give-and-take between man and society…It is this give-and -take that motivates the inquiry in this work: what are political obligations? What are they an obligation to do? And to whom is it owed?
