About the Book

Asia is not one place. The ideas and ideals that we call Asian are countless and diverse. Some of our artworks are ancient. Others are contemporary. Artistic and educational programs empower visitors to discover the relevance of great artworks in personal ways. Developments in Asian art historically parallel those in Western art, in general a few centuries earlier. Chinese art, Indian art, Korean art, Japanese art, each had significant influence on Western art, and, vice versa. The East-Asian Art Collection presents a sweeping overview of the art of China, Japan, and Korea, each displayed in their own galleries and a study collection. Asian countries today have developed or are developing their own museology and museums, which are not simple copies of European or North American models. This book provides readers with carefully chosen examples of museum activities. The present book focuses on the ways in which these institutions have been addressing the subject at a regional, national and international level. This important book will contribute to the developing body of literature that academics, professionals, policy makers and students.
